SUMMARY:Reconnecting with Nature through Journaling
DESCRIPTION:Join Swannanoa Valley WILD! Chapter of NCWF in partnership with the Friends of Fox Creek Park as we welcome Carolina Corona for a nature journaling workshop at one of our favorite places in the whole world! Fox Creek Park in Swannanoa. \nReconnecting with the natural world after a disaster can be difficult. We can hold on to fear and even resentment which block our ability to be at peace with nature. Artist Carolina Corona will guide us through various prompts to help us reconnect. Nature Journaling brings us closer to reconnecting and deepening our connection with nature while sharpening our observation and drawing skills. Nature provides us with peace\, beauty\, and infinite wonder. Reflecting in nature by focusing and recording our observations\, thoughts\, and experiences is a practice that can bring healing in times of crisis. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but REGISTRATION REQUIRED. \nYou will receive the full event details and updates upon successfully submitting your registration to attend HERE.

SUMMARY:Wild Neighbors Library Program
DESCRIPTION:Join Swannanoa Valley WILD! in partnership with Friends of the WNC Nature Center as we get WILD at the Swannanoa Public Library. Participants will have the opportunity to meet reptile and amphibian animal ambassadors as we explore the important connection between wildlife and habitat. After our animal ambassador program\, we’ll venture to the garden to discuss pollinators\, native plants\, and maybe even get our hands a little dirty! This is a great opportunity for families with kids ages K – 6th grade. \nThis event is free and open to the public in an effort to keep these programs accessible. If financially able\, we suggest a $10 donation that will go directly toward Swannanoa Valley Wild educational programs and habitat restoration work. \nHeader Image Photo Credits: Eastern Tiger Swallowtail – Joe Poston. SUMMARY:A Hiker's Journey on the Pacific Crest Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join NCWF Swannanoa Valley WILD! and Highland Farms as they welcome NCWF Conservation Coordinator\, Luke Bennett. \nIn 2024\, Luke decided to run away from responsibilities and thru-hike the 2\,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail heading Southbound from Canada to Mexico. Along the way he experienced stunning landscapes\, close encounters with wildlife (including a near death experience with a grouse)\, and approximately 10 million blisters. Beyond a walk in the woods\, the PCT brought to light the importance of prioritizing time outside with friends and family\, the necessity to protect public lands\, the overwhelming kindness of strangers\, the subtle art of hitchhiking\, the struggle of being away from home\, and the beauty of a properly topped bowl of oatmeal. \n Join us with your favorite trail snack as we pack an adventure of a lifetime into one hour! \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but REGISTRATION REQUIRED. \nYou will receive the full event details and updates upon successfully submitting your registration to attend HERE.
